I didn't have much interaction with self advocacy on my side, but there was one time that suck out to me. One day Alicia's phone stopped working and she asked me to help her. I searched online and couldn't find anything. I then told Alicia to tell me how her phone broke. I found out that she had dropped her phone so, I dropped it again. In the end I ended up fixing her phone and helping her in the end.
So far I love Qualcomm's thinkabit lab. Between getting to tech kids how to build robots and some pretty amazing co-workers, I think I'm in externship heaven. Not only that but as a part of my project for externship I have to work with my old 7th grade math teacher and help her teach her kids. My day to day tasks keep me nice and busy but I get enough down time, and I have so much fun that my work load is not even a problem. It's been fun so far and I hope it gets even better.
As a part of your day as a thinkabit student, you take time to show off the prototype that you made. This is one of my favorite parts of the day. Seeing the kids light up as they show of and explain their products makes me so happy. I'm glad I get to see this about thirteen more times as my time here at my externship progresses.
I love thinkabit because of all the creative projects and artwork on the walls. I love working with little kids and most the staff here get really excited at every little idea and creation that the little kids think of. I love walking into the Qwow room in the morning and seeing all the kids all lined up on their colorful bean bags listening to Jen. I don't have many hopes or fears, since I've already been here before I already have a good idea of what my day-to-day looks like but I have to say I'm really looking forward to the week we go to a school by ourselfs.
At thinkabit, we spend our days teaching elementary and middle school kids how to program arduinos. They then use these skills ti build prototypes of different inventions that they come up with. Jennifer Manfredi is our mentor here at thinkabit. she is super kind, easy going, and loves what she does. She is helping me and the others with our final product of actually going out into the field and teaching kids at their schools instead if them coming to us. I'm excited to teach a class with my friends on our own.
